The City of Elyria is pleased to announce the return of the Cleveland POPS Orchestra at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30. This free event, a community favorite, will take place on the steps of Elyria’s historic courthouse overlooking Ely Square.

Journey through classical melodies that gave birth to the Blues, featuring hits such as St. James Infirmary, Sweet Georgia Brown, Basin Street Blues, and This Little Light with Byron Stripling and your Cleveland Pops.

The season opens with a tribute to the spirit of Scotland. From misty moors to highland anthems, immerse yourself in the stirring sounds of the FSO and guest violinist Annelle K. Gregory, 1st Prize & Audience Choice Award winner of the 2017 National Sphinx Competition. Featuring Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3, “Scottish”, and iconic melodies like Scotland the Brave, this vibrant season opener—complete with bagpiper—blends classical elegance with Celtic fire.

Experience the sweeping beauty of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, brought to life by Piano Cleveland artist and Cleveland International Piano Competition Medalist Maxim Lando. Combining lush Romantic-era music with themes of honor, memory, and reflection, we celebrate our veterans and active military personnel with John Williams’ Liberty Fanfare and Aaron Copland’s A Lincoln Portrait.

Acclaimed tenor Jonathan Kaufman and the FSO Chorale lend their voices to this program of Italian-inspired works, transporting audiences with the romance of opera and the drama of classical masterpieces. In addition to well-known melodies such as O Sole Mio, Come Back to Sorrento, and famous arias, we explore Italy’s great musical influence with Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italienne and Mendelssohn’s Saltarello from his Fourth Symphony, “Italian”. Whether soaring arias or lush orchestral textures, this concert celebrates the passion of Italian culture.

Michael Grandinetti joins the Cleveland Pops for a night of unforgettable music and illusions. Witness extraordinary magic including floating people, disappearing acts, and surprises galore! You’ll hear magical music from Harry Potter, Hook, and even selections by Shostakovich and Ravel!

This night brings the best of rock ‘n’ roll to your Firelands Symphony Orchestra! This special pops concert includes the works of Elvis, Michael Jackson, ABBA, Billy Joel, Tina Turner, Adele, and more from the 1950’s through the 2000’s. This program, created by The Cleveland Pops, will also feature vocalists Lauren Berry, Connor Bogart O’Brien, and Natalie Green in a high-energy fusion of symphonic sound and rock-and-roll hits!

A night of music that was Made in America including Ragtime, Dixieland, Big Band, Rock, Country, Blues, Hip-Hop and more as we celebrate America’s semi quincentennial celebration. We will also perform a special salute to our armed forces and first responders.
